Ben Affleck has chosen Netflix’s “Animals” as his next directorial project and will also take on the lead role, stepping in for his best mate Matt Damon. Damon is currently tied up with filming Christopher Nolan’s “The Odyssey,” leaving Affleck to star opposite Gillian Anderson.
The film marks Affleck’s return to directing since “Air.” He will play an L.A. mayoral candidate whose son has been abducted. Strapped for funds due to campaign expenses, the character and his wife (played by Anderson) must act quickly to secure the ransom.
If his previous work is anything to go on, then this film is one to look forward to.

Written by Connor McIntyre with Billy Ray handling revisions, the script was originally scheduled to move into production last year. However, the project was delayed as Affleck worked on a sequel to “The Accountant.”
Filming for “Animals” is now set to start in Los Angeles next month.
