Jennifer Lopez officially filed for divorce from Ben Affleck in L.A. County Superior Court on Tuesday (August 20); a date that directly coincides with another important milestone in former pair’s relationship.
According to TMZ, the timing and details surrounding the act exist as a “major twist” in that the legal documents were not filed by a lawyer and there was not an attorney present when J Lo decided to officially end things with her on-again, off-again beau. Lopez filed for divorce from the Argo star on August 20, 2024, making their second wedding anniversary also the day they conclusively called it quits.
TMZ reported that there was no prenup signed prior to the marriage, meaning that money earned from each party during their union is now “community property.” Per the documents, the “On The Floor” artist also “waived spousal support” and asked the judge to deny Affleck support as well.
The exes have yet to reach a financial settlement regarding the sale of their joint property in Beverly Hills, listed in July amid continued breakup buzz.
News of an apparent rift between the former couple, whose relationship dates back over two decades, began to surface in May when Lopez liked an Instagram post citing “unhealthy” relationships. The pair were spotted without their wedding rings on multiple occasions and allegedly spent a handful of days apart this summer as rumors regarding a possible split spread like wildfire.
The official date of separation listed on the divorce papers was April 26, 2024.
Neither Lopez nor Affleck have publicly commented on the divorce as legalities proceed.
