A new magical holiday display for Christmas is based on drawings by talented young Australians from right across the country who were tasked with creating a sleigh for Santa that would be fit for deliveries down under.
The sleighs were built by LEGO Masters co-host and Aussie Brick Legend Ryan ‘Brickman’ McNaught (The sole LEGO Certified Professional in the Southern Hemisphere) and his team.
You won’t believe how many bricks they used! One turns out to be the size of a small car!!
The Flying Bilby Sleigh was designed by Queensland’s Owen Harris, a 10-year-old from Bondoola. Owen is a former Wildlife Warrior of the Year so you can see the conservation messages throughout the design. There were 49,930 bricks and it took 377.5 hours to put together.
Santas Surfboard Sleigh was designed by 11-year-old Amelia Bryant from Melbourn Victoria whose design features beautiful turtles used 4856 bricks and took 98.25 hours to build.
The Swamp Strider based on the original drawing of 9-year-old ‘Apolosi Fosita also from Victoria features feathers to tickle crocodiles making them laugh instead of bite used 14,492 bricks in 110 hours of build time.
The sleighs are showcased in brick form at the World’s Largest LEGO store in Pitt Street Sydney but are also featured in a new digital book downloadable here.
For the book, LEGO partnered with award-winning children’s author and illustrator Sophie Beer to create a Christmas tale for all families which is also available as an audiobook on Spotify and Apple Podcasts.
Sophie Beer commented “Bringing these incredible sleigh designs to life has been such a joy. Each one captures the playful imagination and festive spirit of Christmas in Australia.”
The live display is showing until Christmas day and the book can be listened to here.
