Restoration and accessibility works have officially been completed at the jewel in Ballarat’s artistic crown, Her Majesty’s Theatre, with final touches now being carried out.
The upgrades include a new snack bar and box office, as well as lifts to all levels to make the theatre more accessible to artists and audience members.
“Community access to Her Majesty’s Theatre has been extremely limited in recent years, with the vital redevelopment works commencing not long after the pandemic,” Mayor Cr Des Hudson said.
“There is so much excitement in the air around the theatre reopening and after getting a sneak preview inside, I can promise people will not be disappointed.”
The $16.3 million project is supported by $10 million from the State Government’s Regional Jobs and Infrastructure Fund.
A grand public re-opening of the country’s oldest continually used theatre will be held in November, with the venue set to celebrate its 150th anniversary next year.
