Police have detected more offences during an August road safety operation, compared to the same time in July.
Operation West Connect saw officers detect high-risk driving behaviour across the region, including speeding, distraction and drink and drug driving.
Almost half of the offences detected in August were for speeding, with 75 per cent of speeding drivers detected between 10 and 25 kays over the speed limit.
It follows a horror month where 13 lives were lost on roads in Western Victoria during July.
There’s been four fatal collisions in the state’s west this month, occurring in Lucas in Ballarat’s west, Mannibadar, Corio and Drummond.
In total, 155 offences were detected on Western Victorian roads during the operation in August, 23 more than last month.
During this month’s police operation in Ballarat, 15 people were caught speeding, 5 people were found driving unregistered and 2 people were found travelling without a seatbelt.
One person was found using a mobile phone while driving, with another two caught disobeying traffic signals.
