The City of Ballarat still has no definitive plan about what to do with the old saleyards site.
The land on La Trobe Street was selected to site the 2026 Commonwealth Games village, before the game’s abrupt cancellation in July last year.
It now sits vacant.

Council CEO at the City of Ballarat, Evan King, says they’re looking at the whole precinct.
“It needs a precinct structure plan not just looking at the saleyards itself,” he said.
“We need to look at the broader precinct and if you think the western growth front is coming in [and] starting to encroach on that area, what is the best use of that land in the long term.”
