As the federal election nears, both major parties are promising to upgrade sporting facilities across the Ballarat region.
The Federal Coalition is promising $1 million to upgrade Ballarat’s City Oval.
Liberal candidate for Ballarat, Paula Doran, says she’s had strong feedback about the need for the upgrade to provide accessible female changing facilities and enhance the player and spectator experience.
She says the project will encourage greater participation in sport, particularly amongst women, and preserve the heritage of the grandstand.
Labor is promising to spend $1.2 million on soccer facility upgrades in Daylesford and Creswick.
The money will go towards reconfiguring Daylesford’s Victoria Park grounds to incorporate two-senior sized pitches.
Funds will also go to the construction of extra female-friendly change facilities for players and officials at Creswick’s Doug Lindsay Recreation Reserve.
The upgrades will cater for the growth of women and girls’ soccer in the Hepburn Shire.
