Tourism Midwest Victoria continues to fight for funding to support businesses impacted by February’s bushfires.

The Pyrenees region was particular hard hit, with around 22,000 hectares of farmland, state forest and residential areas affected by the fires.

The area was expected to host 76,000 visitors who would have injected $21 million into the local economy.

Board member Katrina Nitschke says they’ll continue to advocate for the region.

“Cost of business is going up [and] having the bushfires on top of that really difficult economic environment has made it tough for a lot of people,” she said.

“We continue to work to advocate for our region into government [and] into the tourism industries, so that we can get the support that we deserve and need.”
