An extra $2.4 million has been requested to complete construction work at Her Majesty’s Theatre.
Since the third stage of construction works began at the theatre, the team found a number of issues, including rotten floor structures, contaminated soil and historic fire damage.
In a statement, Ballarat Mayor, Des Hudson said when dealing with historical buildings, it’s difficult to fully gauge what lies beneath until you peel away the layers of almost 100 years of construction.

Mr. Hudson said the extra funding for the project was necessary to ensure the facility remained one of Ballarat’s premier assets long into the future.
The request will be considered by Ballarat City Council at a meeting on Wednesday night.
