Council CEO denies infrastructure overload claims

Ballarat Council says it hasn’t bitten off more than it can chew with its current $144 million infrastructure program.

Current works include the refurbishment of Her Maj, Lake Wendouree lighting, Bridge Mall redevelopment and Library upgrade amongst others.

CEO, Evan King, says they need to get on with things to avoid project costs skyrocketing.

“Those projects are actually being delivered now and probably one of the most significant focusses of mine in commencing the job was to get all of these projects moving,” he said.

“Many of them had been on our books for some time, and the challenge in an inflationary environment; the longer a project sits on your books, it continues to escalate in cost.”
