Plans are on track to begin construction of the controversial Ballarat East Zone power substation this year.
Powercor says the first stage of construction will include excavation work at the York Street site and installing a safety fence.
Infrastructure will be installed next year, with the project on track to be completed by the summer of 2025.
Residents in Ballarat East have hit out at the decision to build the substation, with Mayor Des Hudson describing a meeting with Powercor to discuss alternate substation sites in February as ‘disingenuous’.
Representatives from the company met with Ballarat councilors on Wednesday to outline how it was addressing a number of community concerns.
Another two community information sessions about the project will be held in the coming months.
