The Committee for Ballarat has gone into bat for Federation University in the wake of a massive threat to its international student numbers.

The Federal Government has proposed a nationwide cap, saying that the current 800,000 international students are more than the country can sustain.

However, the Committee’s Chief Executive Michael Poulton says the 2025 plan would see Fed Uni’s numbers drop by a massive 52% compared to 2023.

“Federation Uni has seven campuses across regional Victoria and has actually come out on the poor end of this.”

“It has suffered if you like disproportionate cuts to their student numbers which have the potential to really impact the universities viability,” Mr. Poulton said.

According to the ABS each international student contributes over $60,000 per annum to our economy.
