Ballarat police will be out in force this Australia Day long weekend and are pleading with local drivers to slow down.
Operation Amity started statewide this morning and will run until Monday, in an effort to reduce road trauma.
Senior Sargeant Brad Hall says they’re looking for no-one to be hurt, injured or killed on our roads.
“In recent times in the Ballarat area we’ve lost five members of our community to road trauma.”
“We’re finding that speed still continues to be the number one contributor, so what I would ask everyone is to slow down, pay attention and enjoy the long weekend.”
“If we get through the weekend without anyone being hurt on our roads then that is what we are looking for,” Senior Sergeant Hall said.
24 lives have been lost on Victorian roads so far this year, five more than at the same time in 2024.
