The City of Ballarat are calling on locals to get on their bike for Biketober.
The event encourages locals to pump up their tyres and enjoy the benefits of cycling during October.
Local employers are setting up teams as part of the competition, with over 100 people already registered.
Anyone who needs a bike but can’t afford one can see volunteer organisation Recranked, which recycles bikes and donates them back to the community.
Coordinator of Recranked, Wallace Martin, says they’d like to see more people out riding.
“There’s lots of statistics around with the amount of car use. If we can get 20 per cent of the kids riding to school instead of getting driven to school, the number of cars that are off the road is quite amazing,” he said.
