Ballarat’s young futsal players will soon be taking on the best in the world, after qualifying for the World Club Futsal Championships.
Futsal is a version of soccer, played on a small, hard-court surface.
At the Gold Coast International Futsal Cup last month, the Ballarat under 10 squad went through all group stages undefeated to make it to the Grand Final but were beaten 8-4 by Queensland’s Feenix Futsal Club.
However, as finalists the under 10’s team qualified for the world championships, to be held in the US.
Director at Futsal Ballarat, Dermott Tebb, says it’s a very big honour.
“They’ll get the opportunity to participate in that tournament, which is held in the USA, competing against teams from all across the world [such as] Europe, Asia, America and Southeast Asia,” he said.
“We’ll see how they go at the next level.”
