Over 7,000 offences were detected during a statewide police blitz over the King’s Birthday long weekend, with 69 offenders caught in Ballarat.

Held between Friday morning and Monday night, Operation Regal saw police targeting high risk driving behavior around the state.

One driver was caught driving disqualified, with three caught driving unlicenced.

Seven vehicles were found to be unregistered and four drivers were detected disobeying signs.

Despite the figures, Senior Sargeant Paul Maslunka says he’d rather applaud everyone doing the right thing over the weekend.

“Keep it up. You’re helping us keep the road safe and we appreciate it,” he said.

“We were glad to get feedback over the weekend when we were doing [breath tests] and [locals] were giving us support and praising us for the job that we do, so thank you. It means a lot to us.”
