Passenger flights to the city may soon become a reality, as work begins on a new Ballarat Airport strategy and master plan.
A focus of the new plan will be whether establishing direct interstate passenger flights to an upgraded airport will encourage more people to visit the region.
Despite having one of the highest populations of any regional city in Australia, Ballarat does not have a scheduled passenger and freight airline service.
The use of aviation within the operation and supply chain of Ballarat businesses will also be investigated.
Consultation for a plan will open November 2nd, with residents able to provide their feedback through the council’s MySay page and in person at events in Lucas and Miners Rest.
