A Ballarat councillor says she feels confident the city will be a part of the final Goldfields World Heritage bid despite being left off the tentative list.

Included are the Castlemaine goldfields and Bendigo’s historic urban landscape amongst others, but Ballarat is notably missing.

Cr Samantha McIntosh says the experts involved in the project have ensured her that Ballarat will be a part of the final bid.

“I know that some people are concerned at not seeing Ballarat front and centre right now, but they will.”

“I believe that we have got everything in place, we’ve still got this year on the federal tentative list before it goes to UNESCO, and I’m given every bit of confidence from all of the experts surrounding us that we will be part of that, we are part of that,” Cr. McIntosh said.

Six sites spanning central and southern Victoria have been recognised in the listing with the possibility that more areas will be added as the nomination is developed.

The nomination process can take between five to ten years.
