One of Australia’s most recognisable health promotion campaigns turns 50 this weekend and, in a coup, Ballarat will play host.

‘Life Be In It’, staring beer-bellied Norm, began in 1975 to increase our physical activity and general wellbeing.

It’s founding CEO Ian Bennett, who these days calls Ballarat home, says he made sure the celebrations were held here with staff and supporters from every state set to converge on the city for three days.

“It’s good for Ballarat by the way to have all the delegates coming and buying their ice creams and fuel and whatever else in Ballarat, it’s good for the town,” Mr. Bennett said.

The founder of Life Be In It, the Hon Brian Dixon, who was the Minister for Youth, Sport and Recreation with the Victorian Government at the time, will make a special guest appearance.
