There are fresh calls for jumps racing to be banned, after three horses were euthanised in Ballarat on Sunday.

At the Grand National Steeplechase, Maserartie Bay, Buffalo Bill and Mighty Oasis all suffered serious injuries in three separate races.

Two jockeys were also injured on the day, with one suffering a head injury and transported to a Melbourne hospital.

In total, 12 horses have been killed during the 2024 racing season.

The Coalition for the Protection of Racehorses’ Elio Celotto says they’ll be speaking to Racing Minister, Anthony Carbines, and Racing Victoria over the next few days.

“The racing industry really needs to look at its social licence and realise that jumps racing is not good for horses and not good for the racing industry,” he said.

“It’s only followed by a minority of racegoers, and we think it has no place in our society any longer.”
