Police blitz sees multiple Sturt Street hoon drivers reported

Ballarat police have thrown the book at Sturt Street hoon drivers.

The blitz, which included members of the highway patrol and plain clothes officers on foot, saw 122 penalty notices issued across the multi-day operation.

23 defect notices were issued over two days and police also reported a number of drink drivers.

Acting Superintendent Jason Templar says they used new laws to get a number of cars off the road.

Mr. Templar said eight vehicles, deliberately losing traction and control, were impounded under the hoon legislation.

“Each of these incidents really have the potential to cause harm in our community,” he said.
