Ballarat locals are set to pay more to get rid of their rubbish, once new rate notices arrive later this month.
Despite the city’s four bin system not being in place yet, the general waste fee is set to increase by 7.4 per cent or $34 a property.
Council boss Evan King has defended the move.
“We’ve got to start implementing it, we’ve got to purchase bins, we’ve got to do education programs, there’s a massive lead-in to four bins coming out,” he said.
“There was no increase in the green waste bins, just the general waste bins.”
It comes as the City of Ballarat launched a new 12-month curbside collection pilot program this morning, allowing residents to recycle their ‘scrunchable’ soft plastics.
