East Ballarat Cricket Club export Matt Short has made Big Bash League history after scoring the highest number of runs in a 10-match regular BBL season.

It’s been an outstanding season for Short, with 509 runs at an average of 79, beating opening teammate D’Arcy Short’s previous record of 504 runs during the 2017/18 season.

Yesterday, the Adelaide Strikers skipper hammered the Sydney Thunder, with 74 not-out off 49 balls, helping the team make the finals.

Mark Simpson, the President of East where Matt started at the age of 12, says they knew at a very young age he had some talent.

“We’re very proud of the lad, he’s done some amazing things over the last two or three years.”

“He’s had great opportunities to represent Australia in Twenty-Twenty cricket and in the coming months will represent Australia in 50-over cricket.”

“We’re very proud of Matt, of what he’s done and what he’s been able to achieve,” Mr. Simpson said.
