A Ballarat councillor says he’ll be putting his hand up on Monday to become the cities next Mayor for possibly the 8th time in a row.

Mark Harris, who held the position once over a decade ago, is standing along with current Mayor Des Hudson, his deputy Amy Johnson and Greens aligned councillor Belinda Coates.

Cr Harris says he doesn’t think he’ll get enough votes personally but welcomes whoever gets councils most senior role.

“Look, as far as a functional council goes, I think it works pretty well.”

“In the end its nine votes on everything although the Mayor does have a casting vote and occasionally that’s significant.”

“But in reality, I’d be more than happy with anybody that’s on our council being Mayor,” Cr Harris said.

The official proceedings as part of the Mayoral Election will take place on Monday night from 6.30pm in Council Chambers at Ballarat Town Hall.
