The epidemic thunderstorm asthma forecast for the central district, which includes Ballarat, remains low today.
The forecast, which uses data collected at Creswick, has been in the ‘high’ and ‘extreme’ categories over recent days around the state.
Dr Rob Grenfell, Chief Strategies and Regions Officer from Grampians Health says it’s worth keeping an eye on the forecast, so we don’t have a deadly repeat of 2016.
“Many of us would remember the catastrophic situation we had.”
“We crushed the ambulance system, and we unfortunately lost a number of Victorians to thunderstorm asthma.”
“The perfect conditions then meant people that just had mild hay fever or mild untreated asthma went to catastrophic levels with asthma, and were unable to get to the emergency departments early enough,” Dr. Grenfell said.
