The City of Ballarat has had success with its latest swim teacher recruitment campaign with 30 new teachers’ poolside at the Ballarat Aquatic & Lifestyle Centre (BALC).
The move was prompted by a chronic short supply of teachers brought on by the pandemic.
Cr Mark Harris says teaching people how to swim remains a top priority for council.
“It’s a big program and if we all think back to the importance of those years of learn to swim certificates it’s perhaps more important now than ever before.”
“We have to re-calibrate ourselves to swim lessons again post Covid,” Cr Harris said.
Throughout 2022, 37 schools from across the region participated in BALC’s ‘Learn to Swim’ program — that’s just shy of 4,000 individual students.
