Ballarat turns on the weather as the Road Nat’s click into gear

Perfect sunshine accompanied by a fresh east to southeasterly breeze has greeted riders on day one of the 2023 Federation University National Road Cycling Championships.

Competition got under way just before 1pm with club criterium races attracting competitors from right around Australia.

‘The Crit’s’ will conclude tonight with the under 23 and elite women’s race at 5pm followed by the elite men at 6.30pm.

Action moves to the famous Mt Buninyong course tomorrow and Sunday for the road races with the time trials at Mt Helen on Monday and Tuesday.

This year’s event has attracted some of the countries and indeed the world’s best athletes including 5-time Tour de France stage winner Caleb Ewan, triple world championship medalist Michael Matthews and recent Bay Crits winner Ruby Roseman-Gannon.
